I have been recently receiving reminders that I have not been updating my blog much lately. To be honest, I am feeling a little off lately and not feeling very inspired to write much.
So, I thought I would just go through some recent pics and share little snippets. If the truth about the photo isn't interesting, maybe I'll make something up.
We have recently hired a manager for the hotel. His name is Roger (aka Chino). He was my representative at the hardware store for the past year. I remember the day he started there and watched him work his way to assistant manager in a very short time.
He was born in city of Limon and on top of living in New York city he has traveled much of the world working on cruise ships.
His background and his lust for life reminds me much of my own beginnings and I felt with his charming disposition, he would serve our guests well at the hotel.

How does one meet gay men in Guatemala? Ask Francisco here... He was able to pick us out up a mile away and was a great host for his country and gave us an insight of what it is like for a local guat growing up gay in his local culture.
It seems no matter where you go in the world, it really is the children are the most beautiful. I can not remember her name, but she worked with her mother in the park selling cloths and local trinkets.
Roberto turns 34. Brian, one of our long-term guests from Arizona, bakes Roberto a tropical cake fit for a queen. The cake may look interesting, but I can assure you it pales in comparison to Brian. Brian turns out to be one those characters that you don't know there is this amazing human being lurking beneath the surface. He has bought some property right behind us and I look forward to him joining us in the community. As for Roberto turning 34... he is still recovering.
Two dear friends visited us here recently. Pictured here they celebrate 14 years together at my friend Eddy's hotel restaurant "Que Rico Papito". Dennis and Jeff of Vancouver have been enthusiastic supporters of our project here and have been cultivating their own dreams up on Quadra Island. This is their 3rd visit. The first visit was almost 4 years ago right after we bought the property. It was hard to say good bye today after a nice breakfast at Bread & Chocolate.
This month was really the month for visits from friends from the motherland. They have all been so supportive and it has been wonderful. Roberto and I have been very moved by very generous donations from friends that was left in support for our some community iniatives we are working on. The school that Roberto teaches at will soon be able to get a much needed water pump as the school has been without water for over 1 year now. There might be some left over for fans for the classrooms as it can get very hot and humid. Due to dress code rules, students and teachers can not wear shorts and t-shirts and have to wear long pants, making it even more stuffy.
